Campo San Giacomo da l'Orio is one of the places most suggestive and antique in the city. The church, of a composite style and with an extraordinary amount of various spaces and volumes, can define a period of art history from 1200-1700.
The actions of the new barbarians have been particularly violent in the surrounding campo.
The stones that pave the "campiello" under the bell tower were probably among the most antique and various in color of those in the city.
They were taken away and substituted with new grey blocks, without any respect for the original layout.
If you observe the campo during a rain, now, the effect is that of an asphalt piazza: quite a difference from the mosaic nuances of the old stones.
It is true there was a little asphalt in the center of the campo between the trees, nearly unpaved and neglected, but it was a small part of the campo and above all it did not arrive too close to the church.

Venezia, saccheggio / Looting of VeniceIf in the rain the new stones resemble asphalt, with sun, the effect seems life cement pavement.
Venezia, saccheggio / Looting of VeniceThe "campiello" under the bell tower was paved with antique stones. The new stones were replaced with no regard for the pattern, fabricated even the trapezoid cut of the stone which has never been seen in the city. The arrows show a patch made with tiny stones to fill a hole left by the new crazy arrangement.
Venezia, saccheggio / Looting of Venice Not only the connection between the old and new pavement is violent and not thought out, but the new stones already show signs of unevenness.
