Ponte dei Penini: "Giù la maschera! / Bridge of the Penini: "Give up!"
Il ponte dei Penini si trova di fronte alla chiesa di San Martino di Castello vicino all'ingresso monumentale dell'Arsenale (vedi sulla mappa). È l'ultimo in ordine di tempo a essere stato rimosso e sostituito. Visto smascherato l'inganno della falsificazione, dalle denunce dei cittadini e del Comitato per la Difesa di Venezia, i "restauratori" sembra abbiano cambiato tattica. Il ponte infatti è dichiaratamente nuovo, diverso per forma, proporzioni, concezione e decorazione dall'originale e presenta una placca con data 1999. Del ponte originale si ignora la sorte, ma è facile immaginare che, ufficialmente, sarà stato rottamato e rifuso "perché troppo in cattive condizioni per venire aggiustato". Come illustriamo nella sezione dedicata all'omogeneità urbanistica, è inquietante la leggerezza con cui gli incaricati della Pubblica Amministrazione contravvengono alle sue stesse norme. Si pensi che i regolamenti comunali vietano al cittadino non solo qualsiasi modifica alla tipologia edilizia, con pesantissime restrizioni anche quando si tratta di modifiche interne alle abitazioni, ma persino di cambiare il colore delle imposte e delle porte di strada, che devono essere rigorosamente marron, verde scuro o nere. Il ponte dei Penini era molto più corto e raccolto, con parapetti più bassi, un rapporto tra pedata e alzata completamente diverso e l'alzata dei gradini era ingentilita da un traforo a ricamo di fiori. Le proporzioni del suo arco ben si sposavano con quelle degli altri due ponticelli adiacenti sullo stesso canale in direzione dell'Arsenale. Sul lato opposto fa invece ancora mostra di sé un'orribile e fatiscente passerella, che però nessuno deve aver pensato di acquistare... pardon, "restaurare". Alla coscienza degli autori di questo ennesimo scempio lascio la vergogna e la scelta fra due classi di epiteti: "ladri e bugiardi" oppure "imbecilli e incapaci" (imbecille da im-baculus, privo di bastone, del sostegno, cioè, della ragione). It is the last in chronological order that was removed and substituted. After the deceitful falsification was exposed by the complaints of citizens and charges by the Committee for the Defence of Venice, the "restorers" seemed to have changed their tactics. The bridge, in fact, is obviously new, different shape, proportions, concept and decorations from the original and displays a plaque with the date 1999. It is unknown the fate of the original bridge, but it is easy to imagine that, officially, it would have been scrapped and re-melted "because it was in too poor condition to be repaired." As we illustrate in the section dedicated to the urban homogeneity, it is disquieting the thoughtlessness with which those entrusted by the Public Works Administration infringes on their own rules. If you think that municipal regulations forbid citizens to make, not only any modifications to the type of building, but also heavy restrictions apply when making internal changes. They even go as far as to control the color of the shutters and the door on the street which must strictly be brown, dark green or black. The bridge "dei Penini" was much shorter and compact, with lower railings, different tread and rise ratio and risers with a completely different fretwork of an embroidery of flowers. The proportions of the arcs of these other two small adjacent bridges were working well together on the same canal in the direction of Arsenale. On the opposite side, however, remains a horrible and disintegrated crossing that no one would have ever thought to acquire … pardon "restore". To the authors of this continued foolishness I leave the embarrassment and the choice between two designations: "thieves and liars" or "imbeciles and incapables" (imbecile from "imbaculus" meaning without cane, without support, that is, without reason.)

Il ponte non è più in ghisa fusa e rivettata. Adesso è in acciaio a pezzi sciolti assemblati con (poche) viti

The bridge is no longer in cast iron and riveted. Now it is in loose pieces of steel assembled with a few screws.

L'alzata dei gradini del ponte originale era abbellita da un complesso traforo floreale: nel nuovo ponte è stata sostituita da questo moderno motivo "a tubo di scappamento"

The risers of the original bridge were adorned with a complex floral fretwork: on the new bridge it was substituted with a modern motif "a tube of muffler pipe."

Almeno in questo caso, non ci verranno a dire che "Il ponte è esattamente quello di prima".

Well, at least in this case they won't pretend that "The bridge is exactly the same as before".
