Saccheggio di Venezia, Giudecca Sant'Eufemia
Looting of Venice: Giudecca Sant'Eufemia
back
Venezia, Zattere>
At the Giudecca the problems are the same as those faced at the Zattere. As well, here there is the building of a "banchina portuale" in concrete of a weight of ten tons per linear meter. Also here the "masegni" and the stones of Istria were taken away and substituted with new reddish stones in place of the masegni and "biancone" (a poor quality white soft stone) in place of the Istrian stone. The images say more than words. We see at Sant'Eufemia the quality and the size of the stones which were taken away and we can compare them with those which were used in return. As well as the arrogant obstinacy of the continued placement of the stones on sand, there is also the billions in public money being spent on these works which last less time than the fences at the building site. Money that could be used for hospitals, schools that instead fattens the pockets of the corrupt administrators and the incapable and dishonest contractors.

Questi quelli che son partiti... / These are those which departed...

In fondamenta del Ponte Longo (vedi mappa) questi masegni sembrano quasi voler essere nascosti sotto i teloni. Venezia, saccheggio / Looting of VeniceOn the waterfront of the Ponte Longo these stones seem to almost want to be hidden under curtains.
In questa e nelle due foto che seguono si può ben vedere che erano tutti masegni piuttosto grandi e in ottimo stato Venezia, saccheggio / Looting of VeniceOn the waterfront at Santa'Eufemia there are thousands of stones belted on pallets and shipped away. In this and the following two photos you can see that all the stones were large and in excellent condition.

e questi quelli che son tornati. / and these are those which came back.

Venezia, saccheggio / Looting of VeniceWaterfront of Sant'Eufemia: the last works show the thousands of substituted stones recognizable by their reddish color. Look at the size of the few returned originals in comparison with the red Bic lighter… It is not even enough that they were placed on sand. The rain has already begun to wash away the bonding material and the stones, also because of their ridiculously small size, they are already shifting and unsettling.
