| Le fontanelle in ghisa sono, assieme ai masegni, il bene pubblico più colpito dal furto istituzionalizzato. Possiamo affermare che solo quelle in pessimo stato di conservazione, rotte o mancanti di parti sono ancora originali. Tutte le altre, ormai, sono partite per ignoti lidi, lasciando al loro posto copie di fattura tanto rozza da costituire un insulto a coloro che realizzarono gli originali e all'intelligenza della popolazione. In molti casi la spudoratezza dei malfattori si è spinta fino a voler risparmiare sui costi di copia, facendo fondere le parti più difficili in ottone o bronzo, metalli facilmente fusibili anzichè in ghisa o ferro che richiedono l'uso di altoforni. Tali parti sono state poi assemblate al corpo della fusione con viti a brugola e coperte da quella spessa e poco resistente verniciatura nerastra che viene usata per coprire come un manto di vergogna tutti i manufatti metallici "restaurati". Si tratta di molte decine di esemplari di cui potrete vedere la collocazione sulla mappa (Venezia Giudecca). In queste pagine ci limiteremo a darvi documentazione su alcuni esempi. |
The cast iron fountains, along with the "masegni"(stones) were the public property most stricken by institutionalized theft. We are able to affirm that the only remaining originals are in very bad condition, broken or missing parts. All the others, by now, have disappeared to unknown lands, leaving in their place, poor copies of very rough construction which insult those who created the originals and the intelligence of the population. In many cases the shamelessness of the criminals goes as far as them wanting to save on the costs of the copies, blending the more difficult parts made in brass or bronze, easily melted metals, rather than in cast iron or iron which require the use of higher temperature ovens. Certain parts were assembled to the main body with screws and covered by a thick, black varnish of little resistance, used to conceal, like a veil of shame, all the "restored" metal works.
